Vista Performance Issues
26 11 2007This comic from Brainstuck.com best describes the feeling that most people have when they consider Windows Vista. And it is not too unrealistic at all. Although a lot of the bad news about Windows Vista is due to the fact that everyone likes to bash Microsoft; and a lot of it is because we typically like to resist change. Here is what we think the story is…
Of many performance benchmarks that people have been running on Windows Vista, there are certain conclusions:
- Windows Vista is definitely not miles ahead in speed and performance from Windows XP. Most of the benchmarks show Vista to be performing same or worse than Windows XP.
- However, Vista is leaps ahead in terms of usability performance. What this means is that it feels faster, the UI is more responsive, and you don’t feel stuck all the time as you might in XP. This is because of SuperFetch.
- For PC gamers, there is little choice but to switch to Windows Vista. All the latest and greatest games are now coming out on DirectX 10, and Vista has the best support for DirectX 10.
- Indeed Vista leaves XP behind in gaming benchmarks because of the better graphics and drivers support for graphics cards.
- And of course, if you use ReadyBoost, you will be able to boost the performance even higher, which should make up for some of that lag from Windows XP.
Overall, our recommendation is that you should give Vista a try. It is far ahead in terms of usability and the ‘WOW’ factor, and with today’s hardware improving all the time, you will not feel the performance problems all that much. As for those crashes, because of the intelligent updating technology in Vista, the crashes should get lesser and lesser.
